Safari ad blockers and a growing number of other browsers/ad-blockers only allow first party (1P) cookies. By using Facebook and Shopify’s native integration it signals that the Shopify website is just as trustworthy as Facebook and the user has already consented to share cookies.
Test Events
Under Facebook Ad Manager’s Events tab, you are able to open your website in a connected browser tab and make sure conversion events are firing.
Event Parameters
These are the meta data fields tied to website users which are sent back to Facebook to match users from ad-clicks to website conversions. More criteria being sent back gives a higher probability that Facebook is able to successfully match users from any given conversion.
Shopify Data Sharing
Inside of Shopify, upgraded data sharing permissions to Facebook from Standard to Maximum. This expands upon the parameters given back to Facebook.
Custom Conversions
Able to configure custom events in this window.
Device Breakdown
iOS/Safari is generally considered the most strict in terms of ad blockers for 3P cookies, but with 1P cookies being used, a healthy volume of conversions from Apple devices are seen.
Alternative Option
Hosting your own 1P server on a platform such as Stape instead of using Shopify’s 1P server connection offers more opportunities to track users in rare cases that attribution might still be lost (ie. Apple’s cookies only being saved for 7 days, private tab browsing sessions).
